Seoulmate Kitchen was born out of a shared dream and a deep rooted love for food, family, and connection. From the very beginning, we knew we wanted to open a restaurant together. For the love of cooking and the service industry it was destiny for us to own our own restaurant.
-Juan Pedro and Francesca Munoz Vaca.
Hello…
Juan Pedro is a professionally trained chef with a culinary arts degree from Mexico and a master’s in gastronomy from Barcelona. For him, cooking is not just a profession, it’s a calling. His passion for food began early, cooking alongside his great-grandmother and preparing meals for his family with heart and intention.
Francesca was born and raised in Santa Barbara and comes from a long line of restaurateurs. With Italian and Korean heritage, her upbringing was deeply rooted in the traditions of both cuisines. From family-run Italian restaurants to homemade Korean meals, food was always at the center of life.
During the pandemic, Juan and Francesca launched a baking delivery and private dining business, bringing fresh baked goods and curated dinners to people at a time when connection felt out of reach. It was their way of offering a bit of comfort and joy during an uncertain time. After the pandemic, they returned to restaurant work but quickly realized they wanted to channel their creativity and effort into something of their own, a space built on purpose, passion, and personal expression.
Francesca introduced Juan to Korean food through visits to Koreatown in Los Angeles, places that held memories from her childhood. He was immediately drawn to the bold, vibrant flavors and inspired to explore how they could be fused with his classical training and global perspective.
That vision became Seoulmate Kitchen, a Korean fusion restaurant and café blending tradition with innovation. By combining Juan’s culinary expertise with the deep cultural roots and family, style warmth behind the concept, Seoulmate Kitchen was created as a space where guests can experience love and connection through every plate, every sip, and every visit.
